What PM Kisan Yojana is

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central-sector income-support scheme that pays eligible landholding farmer families ₹6,000 per year, in three equal instalments of ₹2,000, directly into their bank account.

Who is eligible

You qualify if you are a landholding farmer family — defined as husband, wife, and minor children — that owns cultivable land. The scheme is based on land ownership, not crop type or income from agriculture.

You are not eligible if any family member falls in any of these categories:

  • Holds a constitutional post (former or current)
  • Is a serving or retired MP, MLA, MLC, Mayor, or Zilla Panchayat Chairperson
  • Is a serving or retired Group A or B government employee
  • Receives a pension of ₹10,000/month or more (excluding Multi-Tasking Staff)
  • Paid income tax in the last assessment year
  • Is a registered professional (doctor, lawyer, engineer, CA, architect)

Documents you need

  • Aadhaar card (mandatory)
  • Bank account passbook (Aadhaar must be linked)
  • Land records (Khasra/Khatauni or 7/12 extract depending on state)
  • Mobile number (for OTP)
  • Recent passport-size photo (for offline application at CSC)

How to apply online

Step 1: Visit the PM Kisan portal

Go to pmkisan.gov.in and click New Farmer Registration.

Step 2: Choose your registration type

Select Rural or Urban Farmer Registration depending on whether your land is in a rural or urban panchayat area.

Step 3: Verify Aadhaar

Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar and complete the OTP that comes to your registered mobile number.

Step 4: Fill the form

Enter:

  • Name exactly as per Aadhaar
  • State, district, sub-district, village
  • Bank account number, IFSC, branch
  • Land record details (Khasra/Khatauni number, area, ownership type)

Step 5: Submit

Save the registration number displayed on the success screen — you will need it to check status later.

Step 6: Complete e-KYC within 30 days

Choose any of:

  • Aadhaar OTP e-KYC at pmkisan.gov.in (free)
  • Biometric e-KYC at your nearest CSC (₹15)
  • Face Authentication via the PM-Kisan mobile app (free)

How to check your ₹6,000 instalment status

  1. Go to pmkisan.gov.in.
  2. Click Beneficiary Status under "Farmers Corner".
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number or bank account number or mobile.
  4. Enter the captcha and click Get Data.

You will see all past instalments with date, amount, and bank credit status.

What if your instalment is not credited?

Check these in order:

  1. Aadhaar–bank link — call your bank or check via UIDAI’s "Aadhaar/Bank Linking Status".
  2. e-KYC status — visible on the PM Kisan portal under your beneficiary page.
  3. Name match — Aadhaar name should match bank account holder name.
  4. Land record verification — pending state verification will block payment until cleared.

If everything looks fine but money is still missing, file a grievance at pmkisan.gov.in or call the helpline 155261 / 011-24300606.

Updating bank or Aadhaar details

Use the Updation of Self Registered Farmer option on the portal to fix:

  • Bank account or IFSC changes
  • Spelling corrections in name
  • Mobile number updates

Keep the registration number handy — you cannot edit details without it.

Pro tips

  • File registration before the financial year’s instalment cutoff to avoid missing the next ₹2,000 cycle.
  • After registration, link Aadhaar to bank using NPCI mapping — many farmers fail at this step.
  • If you are a tenant farmer, you are not eligible — only landholders qualify.

If you’re a small farmer also exploring credit and insurance, look at Kisan Credit Card (KCC) for working capital and PMFBY for crop insurance.
